Five for Friday on a Saturday!

Happy Saturday, friends! Aren't you glad it's the weekend? This first full week of school with students has EXHAUSTED me! Whew!

I finally bit the bullet and ordered an Erin Condren planner! I have heard about them for years. I couldn't decide if I should order a teacher planner or a life planner, so I splurged and ordered both! They are both SO pretty. I think I could have used the life planner only, but I'll definitely take advantage of having both!

E has successfully completed his first week of Preschool! He is loving it so far and I LOVE hearing all about his day. It just confirms that one day I want to teach young ones. He's just SO excited to learn and I love that. He tells me all about circle time, what jobs he has each day, and my favorite: the Bible stories they read. :) Hearing about his day is my favorite part!
I have a sweet group of students. Or, I should say three groups since I teach 3 groups. I got a new student this week and today was her last year before she moves. I just hate it for her - I can't imagine moving after the first week. She drew me this picture and I told her I'd hang it up in the room. Bless her heart.
I need some Daily 5 advice! I teach 3 segments of Reading/Language Arts/Writing. I have 80 minutes to teach all so we have about 35 minutes for Reading, 15 minutes for Language Arts, and about 30 minutes for Writing. I'm having a hard time picturing how Daily 5 is going to look in a 5th grade departmentalized classroom. We have to use novels (1 per nine weeks) so we will begin that soon. Anyone use it in a departmentalized upper grade?
Can I get an AMEN?!

  1. I'm glad you survived this past week! E's excitement is contagious! I'm with you about wanting to teach sweet little ones too. Sorry I don't have any advice about Daily 5 in your classroom :(

  2. I've ordered the EC teacher planner! I'm looking forward to using it this school year. Just like you, I've been thinking about the planner for a few school years now and decided to take the plunge. Our little girl starts preschool on the 18th and am planning on reading The Night Before Preschool to her as well. Glad to be your newest follower!

  3. Id love to hear how you are integrating D5. I am in the EXACT same boat as you. This is my first year in 5th. I've always used D5 in my 2nd grade classroom. We have 80 minutes like you and must use a chapter book study a 9 weeks as well. Help!
